BISON RALLY TEAM COME 2nd IN LIBYA RALLY

BISON RALLY TEAM COME 2nd IN LIBYA RALLY

28 March 2012

This year the Libya Rally was held between 19 and 25 of March. The rally was not held last year owing to the civil unrest in Libya, which is also the reason why the rally was held in Tunisia this year.  The rally started on the island of Djerba located in the southern coastal region of Tunisia.

The Bison Rally Team, consisting of manager and navigator Jean-Pierre "Sjamp" Jacobs, driver Kurt Keysers, and mechanics Domingin Cuesta, Marcel Voogt and Theo Munckhof, had to deal with a setback on the very first day. Immediately after the initial checkpoint the team was confronted with a defective gearbox, which meant that the Desert Warrior could not drive any further. After working on the car all evening they were ready to start early the next morning, albeit with a substantial time disadvantage.

They fought back in the general classification with five successive stage victories and managed to enter the final stage with a considerably reduced time disadvantage. The Bison Rally Team also won the last stage, but the time difference was not quite enough to win the general classification.

Six stage victories and a second place is certainly something to be proud of, and naturally the team is very happy with their performance. Victory eventually went to Go2Dakar with Willem Kien and Jos Schotanus, old friends of the Bison Rally Team.

Well done lads!
